Eligibility Criteria

The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) eligibility criteria undergo minor changes every year. Here are the key eligibility requirements for CTET 2024:

Educational Qualifications: Candidates must have completed their Bachelor's degree or higher in any discipline from a recognized university. There is no minimum percentage requirement.

Age Limit: There is no upper age limit for CTET. However, candidates applying for the primary teacher position should be between 18-44 years old.

Attempts: There is no limit on the number of attempts a candidate can take for CTET. One can appear for the exam as many times as they want.

Qualifying Exam: It is mandatory for candidates to have qualified Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) to be eligible for CTET. The TET exam needs to be cleared by the state in which the applicant seeks employment.

Language Proficiency: CTET is conducted in 20 languages across India. Hence, candidates should be proficient in the chosen exam language. There is no language proficiency certificate required.

The key change in the CTET 2024 eligibility criteria compared to previous years is the removal of the upper age limit of 65 years for secondary teacher aspirants. Now there is no upper age restriction, aligning with the primary teacher age limit rules.

Exam Pattern

The CTET exam consists of two papers:

Paper 1 is for candidates who want to teach classes 1 to 5. This paper has 5 sections - Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I (compulsory), Language II (compulsory), Mathematics, and Environmental Studies. There are 30 MCQ questions in each section, for a total of 150 questions.

Paper 2 is for candidates who want to teach classes 6 to 8. This paper has 4 sections - Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I (compulsory), Language II (compulsory), and Mathematics and Science. There are 30 MCQ questions in each section, for a total of 120 questions.

Both papers are held in a multiple choice question (MCQ) format with 4 options to choose from. Candidates get 2.5 hours (150 minutes) to complete Paper 1 and 2 hours (120 minutes) to complete Paper 2. Each question carries 1 mark, so the total marks for Paper 1 is 150 and for Paper 2 is 120. There is no negative marking for wrong answers.

The CTET exam aims to assess candidates' teaching skills, concepts, problem solving abilities, and knowledge of relevant topics pertaining to early childhood and elementary level teaching. The exam pattern tests candidates in a comprehensive manner through MCQs covering all key subject areas.

Syllabus

The CTET 2024 syllabus covers a wide range of subjects that candidates need to be familiar with in order to pass the exam. The main subjects included in the CTET syllabus are:

Child Development and Pedagogy - This section focuses on child psychology, development stages, learning principles, individual differences among learners, inclusive education, classroom management, etc.

Language I (Bengali/Hindi/English/Assamese/Gujarati/Kannada/Odia/Tamil/Telugu/ Urdu) - This section tests the candidate's proficiency in the chosen language and their ability to teach it.

Language II (Bengali/Hindi/English/Assamese/Gujarati/Kannada/ Odia/Tamil/Telugu/Urdu) - Same as above, for a second language.

Mathematics and Science

Mathematics - Number systems, geometry, data handling, algebraic thinking, measurement, etc.

Environmental Studies - Natural resources, food, transportation, shelter, water, etc.

Social Studies/Social Sciences

History - Ancient civilizations, medieval period, modern period, Indian freedom struggle.

Geography - Natural environment, resources, agriculture, industries, etc.

Civics - Democracy, federalism, fundamental rights, directive principles, etc.

The detailed subject-wise syllabus for CTET 2024 will be released along with the official notification by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Candidates are advised to study the syllabus thoroughly to understand the scope of the exam.
